I have to fully agree with Frank's post about the trails and everyone should get involved with the Trails Committee to put their best foot forward. Even if you do not have a snowmobile or an ATV those trails would make for some beautiful walking paths and nature hikes.

My wife and I are new to Grindstone this year and will definetly join the TC to help with whatever will make everyones time here more pleasant.

On that note we would like to be the first to offer up a small woodstove for the upcoming "warm up shack" that we here is being built on Nov 7. I will also be on hand to help erect said shack. I'm sure those snowmobilers out there will be already cutting up wood for the shack in anticipation of whats to come.

I challenge all of the Grindstone cottagers to "anti-up" something for the TC and help them help you and yours.

The trails committee needs all ATV/snowmobilers to get together and keep our recreational fun alive. Grindstone Park was developed as a recreational park for all to enjoy. From Parks website…." Manitoba's parks offer a wide range of services and facilities for your year-round enjoyment. No matter what recreational activities you pursue, you are sure to enjoy our spectacular natural environments, unique cultural sites, sandy beaches and clear waters. When you are ready to experience everything under the sun, come to Manitoba provincial parks".

If you want to enjoy the activity of your choosing…….get involved. the following is how I got started…………….

Hi, I got your email from Lynn at Grindstone Gazette, who forwarded your request for info as to quad committee / club.  She sent your info to Joe, who forwarded it to me.

I'm glad to finally hear from other quaders, most of the committee are non quaders & it would be great to get some additional support.

The trail committee was formed in response to us "quaders" being kicked out of the trails in the developments, despite having built & used many of them over the last almost 30 years. Due the constant complaining of a small group of non motorized trail users, we are banned from using any areas other than north of the gravel pits.

We have been meeting as a committee for a while now ( about once a month or so) to try & get parks to designate areas in the park for our use. I tried to reopen some trails opposite of the store, & have linked the old brush dump & the first two borrow pits. As we started to use this area again, we were informed that parks proposed to ban all use other than the main Gravel pit area.

This was not acceptable & we met with parks again on July 2nd. (They are in the midst of a province wide review of all ORV use in all parks of the province.)  We tried to convince the riverton office to support the use of the area west/north of the main road from the store to the main gravel pits.

We are waiting for an answer from them, which may take some time. Until then, we are not developing any more atv trails. In the meantime, the more people that let them know of their displeasure with the current ban the better.

I'm hoping they will accept our proposal so we can open a trail with staging areas, all along the west/north side. The pits in this area provide a great ride.

We are just picking up our ATV's from their tune up and would love to zip them around this weekend.  Does anyone know of any trails that are ready to use around the park?

Parks Branch advises that they are currently reviewing ATV use at Hecla Grindstone Provincial Park.  ATV's are now prohibited on Hecla Island.  On Grindstone, they will only be permitted on designated trails – the deisngated trail staging area will be near the new transfer station/lagoon area.  Once the map showing the designated trails is approved, signage will be posted and enforcement will become strict to ATV use on trails and roads other than the designated trails.  The Grindstone Trails committee is researching the development of more ATV trails but this is likely to be a long process.

In the interim, ATV's are not permitted to be operated along the Grindstone Road from North Cliffs to the transfer station nor any where on the Grindstone Road.  Once the new signage is in place, ATV's will be prohibited under the power lines along the Grindstone Road and along the ditches.
