I have to post a response in regards to the latest post in regards to the Grindstone Road.
We too enjoy the seclusion, and in most cases peace and privacy that we have our cottage at Grindstone. However that road is an issue. If you are one of the people that likes to go out as much as possible like we are you will have to agree when that road is in bad shape, it is damaging to your vehicle.
It has been our experience, that aside from the bumpy road conditions, the limestone dust from the road when it is dry, gets into your vehicle over time through openings where ever it can. It has gotten into door locks.
During extended dry conditions, it is sometimes not safe doing down that road as there are some drivers that go too fast and sometimes it is hard to see. Particularly, have found towards the last stretch of that road when you are exiting the park, that bend before the road turns into the municipality there have been people come around that corner fast and you don't see them till the last minute !
We found out last year that there is damage on our vehicle which is quite likely has been contributed by the vibration when driving down that road over the stretches of washboard like conditions ! There are times when no matter what side of the road you try to drive on you can't get away from the ruts etc.
I would rather pay a bit more on annual fees to have a good road than the extra money every year for vehicle repairs !
We slow down and rarely go over 60 km's hour EVER, but that doesn't often make a difference when you are going over those stretches of washboard like conditions and are "bouncing" all over and sometimes no matter what side of the road you try and pull over to it doesn't make a difference.
At night we slow down even more, as should everyone to be considerate of the frequent wildlife that you encounter. There have been many instances at night of foxes sitting at the side of the road, even a moose ran across one night but he was far enough away and we were going slow enough that it wasn't a problem. There have been other animals, sometimes hard to tell what it is, maybe an owl sitting in the middle of the road.
When dealerships charge you now its $119 per hour to work on your vehicle, and the average cost of a new truck or van which is the most convenient vehicle to go to the lake is over $25,000, we have a right to be concerned and voice it !
Maybe a few signs reminding drivers to slow down may or may not help (vs the sign advertising the "Grindstone Community"….)
