Geoff Smith, District Supervisor/Natural Resource officer,
advises:

Cottagers will likely be able to see fresh
tracks in the snow at any time now.  Bears, along with raccoons and skunks
are starting to poke their heads out of their dens already.  If it is a
sow with cubs, a bunch of little tracks will also be seen around the cottage.
If anyone makes these discoveries, let us know as soon as practical.
We may be able to relocate the bears.

With the snowmobiling and winter recreation
at Grindstone, I doubt that a bear would den in a developed area as they would
likely choose a quiet area where they would not feel any threat. I am pretty
sure they would avoid a cottaging area.
