While I was out for a walk I took my phone and checked for service here and there. ("Can you hear me now?"). While it worked in some locations there were many dead zones. So if you are thinking of getting a cell phone for the up here I would suggest that you confirm that service is available at your cottage before committing to that dastardly three year contract.

A friend and myself took a drive out there a week or so ago, we were both on Rogers, he had sevice, I didn't.
We are using different companies however. I will have to look into this.

Rogers amd MTS are sharing the same network for their "4G" service in Manitoba.
From the MTS website "4G" phones "must support 4G North American Frequencies (850Mhz), older GSM devices will not function on our new 4G network. You can find out if your device is 4G compliant by reviewing the phone's settings."
On the MTS Website they offer the following "4G" phones: BlackBerry® Torch™ 9800, BlackBerry® Bold™ 9780, Nokia C6-00, BlackBerry® Curve™ 9300, and Motorola SPICE.
You can find most of these at the Rogers website too and several others. I'm using a Nexus S and it works great.
You will need a data plan or a data add-on to your voice plan.

Not sure if this is accurate, but I was told only the Curve 3 (new technology) will work with the Rogers technology? Can anyone confirm?

I don't know what the problem would be. I know my BlackBerry is MTS and it worked before – and the other is an Apple I-Phone and it never worked in the past, but not works perfectly. Maybe you should drop by a Rodgers store and get them to check you settings or your could need a different SIM chip. I am sure Rodgers can help you out!

I was out last weekend and my blackberry (Roger's) didn't work at all. I saw no change in my service. Am I supposed to switch networks or something?

We were up at the lake this weekend (April 23 to 24) and our Rogers I-Phone worked perfectly – no issue with email or internet – the tower enhancement works.

The following is the link to Rogers and its map for it new service area. You will note, it appears it has been expanded to reach up to Grindstone and surrounding areas.
