Gazette Editor Position Available

It hardly seems that seven years have passed since I started producing the Gazette in September of 2003.   Now I feel that I’d like to pass the Gazette on to some other creative Grindstoner.

Working on the gazette has truly been a lot of fun.  I especially enjoyed getting to meet cottagers and talking to you in person or via email.   I have certainly appreciated the positive comments I have received from you too, thanks for those notes.

I am willing to work with the interested cottager while they get their feet wet as Gazette Editor should they so wish.   There are a few requirements that are necessary:

  1. computer and computer skills
  2. desk top publishing program of some sort.  I use Microsoft Office Publisher now but I started with a word processing program.
  3. spread sheet document (like excel) for keeping cottager mail and email contact information for use in distribution of the quarterly gazette.

Grindstone and the Gazette have evolved a lot since 2003.  We now have a Trails Committee, Save Our Lake Committee, a new Harbour Authority and the Arts Group all of whom have added to the Grindstone experience.  Reports from all of these groups help make producing the gazette pretty easy.

My thanks go out to the board for their support and encouragement through the years.   Learning all about the G.C.O.A. and what happens behind the scenes has been a great experience.

If you would like to sit in on the Aug. 25th board meeting (before committing) to see how everything works you would certainly be welcome.  Think about what you could do/change or add to the gazette and to the Grindstone Community.  Other than getting the gazette out 4 times a year (with advertisers business cards included)  there aren’t any hard fast rules for what is produced.  Following is an overview of the position.

Please contact me at lynn.sinclair@gmail.com   for more information, or call Winnipeg 668-3262 or lake 378-5402.     Lynn Sinclair, Editor

Note:  There wasn’t a job description for the editor’s job when I started producing the Gazette.  Following are guidelines that I tried to adhere to:

- To ensure that a positive, readable and entertaining Grindstone Gazette is distributed in March/June/Sept & December.  The Gazettes ultimate goal should be to promote a sense of community among cottagers.

- That the Grindstone Gazette should provide information of value to cottagers from board reports, AGM’s, parks information, Trails, Save Our Lake Group, Arts Group, Harbour Authority, Website, Grindstone Days and information on or about the Grindstone area.  As well as educational material, stories of interest, cottager questions, events, etc.

- To ensure that the Grindstone Gazette is distributed to all cottage lot owners.   To work with Larry Verhaeghe (membership contact for the board) and Howard Thiesen (Treasurer) in order to keep the membership list up to date.

- To manage the advertisements in the Gazette.  Advertisers are sent an invoice in November for the next years advertising fees.
